When you crave for that cinnamon latte with pumpkin spice, you know that winter has set in. The chunky sweaters, woolen throws , leather pants, boots & furry things start calling your name out. I guess, we, people in Bangalore are very lucky that the winters here are cold enough to wear layers but not that cold that you freeze your a** off. Also, not all winter-y days are cold, there is enough sun shine during the day. Which makes it perfect to wear shorts with a cardigan.

When I visited the Max store for a styling session last week, I could not believe the variety of stuff they have! They had most of the styles you can think of. Is your style laid back ? They have amazing graphic tees, plaid shirts, shirt dresses and jackets. Like some bling ? You have sequinned jackets, tee shirts and even sweat shirts. Are you on trend or prefer classics ? Street style ? They have something for everyone in the store. And you wont have to break the bank for it , that is the thing I love about it. Their accessories are to die for.

Even for men, they have some stunning pieces. From biker to bomber, from classic blazers to denim jackets, from casual tees to formals to even ethnic. You will find everything in Max. All super stylish, both trendy as well as classic pieces, you will be spoilt for choice.

Speaking about styling, I had a blast styling lovely people who visited the store in Market Square mall, Sarjapur. Attaching a  glimpse of it. I also picked up a few stuff and created 5 different looks with them.  All the outfits in the post can be bought online HERE or visit the nearest Max store.

  • The first look is lounge wear, perfect for laid back days. Since tartan is best worn in winters, I have paired tartan bottoms with a fluffy black embroidered sweater. The fabric is so soft and snug, making it perfect to relax in with a hot cup of Masala chai and a book.
  • The second one is Athleisure gone chic. Wore a dark green metallic top with black tights. Added a black studded & embroidered leather jacket to give a biker touch to it. This look is perfect for travelling if you swap the heels for some kicks. Also, if green colour is not your cup of tea, the same top is available in Oxblood as well.
  • The third look is Street style. Nothing screams street style as good as denim does. So I chose a comfortable shirt dress with patch work on it and threw a denim jacket over. Red shoes and a bag completed this look. Perfect for shopping, movies or running errands.
  • The next one is my favourite, holiday festive. Not only because red is my favourite colour but also, I love mixing ethnic with some casual pieces. Here I have worn a red kurta as a dress with a denim jacket and some Indian earrings. I love how it turned out as the length of that kurta is perfect and the color was very Indian as well as winter-y.
  • The fifth and last one is also inclined on festive mode but more of contemporary ethnic. If you are an Indian, you cannot not love good ethnic. Pair them up with palazzos and a kickass jacket. Complete the look with some jewellery, juttis and a bindi. And last but not the least, smile(In my case- laugh). It can make anything and everything look better. 😀

The Nerdy look, Geeky chic have all evolved as Fashion styles which have become trend setters lately. And why not, when you have such cool pair of specs of different designs, colors and shapes available in the market to suit different face shapes and skin tones. You can look sassy and classy at the same time with the right pair of glasses.

Here are my top 5 tips to look good in glasses:

Let’s face it; eyebrows define your face. Neat, full and well-groomed eyebrows can make a world of a difference to one’s face. Since your eyes are a focal point when you wear glasses, well-defined eyebrows are a must.

Don’t forget to curl them, ladies. Otherwise, every time you blink, they will keep hitting on your glasses instead. (pun intended)

Go nude or go bold with your lip

From matte red to soft peach gloss to dark burgundy to peppy purple to nude brown, all of them will look equally beautiful with spectacles. The choice is yours, darling.

Eyeliner / kajal

Either or both can be your best friends. I would suggest to go for a ‘smudge’ look rather than going ‘smokey’ look because the effect is magnified with the glasses and you want to look hot rather than a racoon

The right amount of concealer can help cover all the dark circles and pop up your eyes. The trick is, to find the right shade that suits your skin tone so that it settles in your skin and your skin seems flawless.  The right concealer can do wonders and make your eye stand out.

Now that the basics are done, let’s find out where and how to choose the right frames for your face shape and skin.  How?  just try on a few styles and shapes, pick the one that enhances your features. Where? – Specsmakers . I love their collection and their variety.

Specsmakers , one of South India’s fastest growing optical retail chain with a vision to provide the best quality eye wear products, services at affordable & economical price range is available across 100 stores in India. They offer a large selection of quality optical frames, including many designer styles and prescription sunglasses.

My experience

When I walked into the Frazer Town store, I was quite delighted to see their offering. I mean, from basic black to funky neon green, they had frames in all colors!!! You also get free lenses for every frame you purchase. They have no-condition warranty replacements. The staff at the store were extremely patient and friendly. They give you suggestions which are quite helpful to choose the right one for your face type. Unlike other stores, they don’t push you to buy their products and instead educate you on their offering. This approach moved me and was quite a refreshing experience. I tried on a few pairs and purchased a pair for myself.

I think Specsmakers has the latest designs, great quality products at affordable prices.

State of the art eye testing facility

For those who don’t know, Specsmakers offer an eye testing facility using premium optical instruments by professionally trained optometrists.

Specsmakers offer a choice of Single Vision Distance, Single Vision Reading, Bifocal and Progressive lenses. As vision is their top priority, they have a broad range of options for their lens that is thinner, lighter, scratch-resistant and safe. Their super quality and choices along with comfort, safety makes it my favorite brand when it comes to Eyewear.

Free repairs, alignments and adjustments

Spectacles tend to wear out and generally get dusty due to normal wear and tear. To ensure their customers are always satisfied, they offer free adjustments and ultrasonic cleaning for the lifetime of your glasses at any store near you. They will also replace nose pads at no charge!! With ultrasonic cleaning, you can remove the dirt and the dust accumulated on your spectacles and always feel that you own a brand-new pair of eye wear.

If you are visiting Coron, Philippines, do not miss this. The Island escapade tour is one of its kind, ‘relaxing’ and ‘luxurious’, 3 island hopping compared to the ”Coron island tour” where there is lot of swimming and snorkeling involved. To give you an idea of both, the Coron island tour would be more preferred by those adventurers. And this one can be right up your alley if you love beach bumming in the turquoise water and stunning picturesque nature, while sipping yummy tender coconut.

The drill was the same, for all the island trips. Once our booking was confirmed, they picked us up in the morning in a van and dropped off at the jetty.

Along with 15 other people, the captain gave us instructions and the boat took off. Since there were only 3 islands for this trip, we got good amount of time to enjoy and explore all the islands.

Bulog Dos Isand

After a gorgeous 1.5 hour boat ride, the first stop was the Bulog Dos Island. White sandy beaches, clear blue sky and turquoise  water, this is the view I would never ever get tired of. We docked our boat and began exploring the island. The thing I loved about these islands was, each of them had a different character.  So, no matter how many island tours you go to, each place will be different. This Bulog Dos island had white sandy beach and unique rock formations which gave it very unique character. There was a Two Seasons resort, which you could easily spot form the beach but you cannot go beyond a hill.

Banana Island

The next stop was just after a 10 minute boat ride, long & white sandy, Banana Island. There are some cottages if you like to stay there overnight. There are lot of hammocks and huts also where you can rest and spend some time. By the time we finished exploring the island, it was almost noon and we were hungry. Lunch again, was carried/cooked on the boat, the captain and his crew happily set up a buffet table for us. We bonded over lunch with all the other people of our boat and it was amazing listening to everyone’s story. After lunch I found myself a throne in the middle of the beach and I decided to settle there.

Malcapuya Island

Since these three islands are close to each other, it generally takes 10-15 minutes boat ride to reach. So the third and final stop was, Malcapuya beach. Ah, what a sight it was..! This beach was way longer than the other two and had a completely different vibe. The water was so inviting, I could not stop myself from jumping in. Along with white sand and crystal turquoise water, it had a series of coconut trees as well as some very curved-fallen-half uprooted tree branches. Each and every branch could make a perfect post card. While Rohitt got his post cards, even I got mine, on a fallen coconut tree trunk..!

After spending the whole day at the gorgeous beaches, we were dropped off at our hotel by 5:00 pm and we still had the entire evening to us. Since we were tired, we chilled at the hotel for some time, went out for dinner and planned the adventure for the next day……

Last month I had this amazing opportunity to attend an informative event organized by Axis Bank. It was held at Axis Bank’s thought factory to celebrate the Graduation Day of the first cohort start-ups.

At @axis_bank event ✨#AxisThoughtFactory

A post shared by Kruti Panchal (@theredliprover) on

As you know, Axis bank is India’s third largest private sector bank. In July 2016, Axis Bank launched its flagship accelerator Program for start-ups, the very first Indian Bank to do so.

Thought Factory

The Thought Factory, is Axis Bank’s co-innovation Lab, which is located in the city of Bangalore. The lab was formed with the sole objective of building disruptive banking solutions – #UnimaginedIsUndone’, being the lab’s maxim.

Thought Factory team has collaborated with OCBC & Visa Innovation Lab, Singapore for co-innovating. A Tech Advisory Board comprising of Sharad Sharma (iSpirit), Manish Chokhani (Enam), Vishal Gondal (Founder, GoQii) & Shankar Narayan (Singapore based serial entrepreneur) along with Axis Bank Senior Management form the ThinkTank for Thought Factory together guide the Thought Factory team in various functions.

Since 2016..

Over the past year, Thought Factory has been a major FinTech ecosystem enabler in Bangalore, hosting multiple events, workshops, international visitors and other corporate clients; thereby enhancing industry-start up collaboration.

For the first cohort of its Accelerator Program, Axis Bank’s Think Tank, selected 6 emerging start -ups from an application pool of 108.

Once the start-ups were on board, they were given a structured mentorship program and access to Axis Bank’s Thought Factory office space. Axis Bank’s aim behind the program was to expedite the overall growth of these emerging start-ups along with exploring novel banking ideas with them. The program focused on two areas:

  •  3 months long classroom styled workshops, focusing on Customer, Product and Traction. The zone Start-ups and the Program Managers of the Bank’s Accelerator program facilitated this. Zone Start-ups organized various sessions, meeting with Eco-system gurus and investors.
  • A tactical Proof-Of- Concept with Axis Bank was enabled by Axis Bank’s Thought Factory team. The POC aided a live validation of start-up’s product idea and its market acceptance.

The event

At the start of the event, Axis Bank Executive Director Rajiv Anand briefed us about the 6 start-ups that were selected for mentoring & funding. He also mentioned that the Axis bank is proud to be the first ever Indian Bank to do so. We then, went on to see the presentations and demo by these start-ups and here they are:

S2Pay – Enabling Offline Mobile Payments

Business Area – Payments

S2Pay forms a layer over payments app and enables the end consumer to make secure offline payments from their mobile app. The technology is especially useful in remote areas where internet data is still a question mark; making digital payments a reality for everyone.

Pally – AI Stack based Chatbot for Investment Advisory

Business Area – Investments
Pally has created a chatbot. Once the user feeds the chatbot with the an image of their salary slip, it creates an investment portfolio which maximizes tax saving for the end customer. The plan is customized for each customer; his details and desired saving plans are queried by an intelligent chat by the bot.

Perpule – Self checkout on mobile app

Business Area – Payments
Perpule’s app lets end customers scan the shopped products from their mobile app, and pay for the billed products using the app once the list is complete. Perpule integrates with retailer’s campaigns, thus automatically applies discounts/offers on the go. Perpule wants to do away the check-out queues, and make shopping fun.

FintechLabs – Analytics in lending

Business Area: Lending
Fintech labs analytical models can be used in digital lending space. With their analytics, they want to digitize lending completely, making it quick, easy but safe and focused.

Paymatrix : Credit in rental space

Business Area: Real Estate, Payments, Credit Cards, Liabilities
Paymatrix is trying to solve the problem of credit involved in Indian rental market via enabling payments to land lords via credit cards. They also help landlords in rent/property management. Paymatrix is trying to reduce the commotion in field on Indian rentals and instill transparency & organization.

Post our interaction with each one of the start-ups, we went to attend the talk where GIEOM spoke about their flagship AI solution for banking sector. The event was ended on a yummy note, with tea and snacks.

The Success

The past 6 months have been quiet eventful for the start-ups, Perpule won the semi-final round of Next Money FintechFinals ‘17, and raised a seed funding of $650K from Kalaari Capital, S2Pay and Gieom onboarded multiple new clients, FintechLabs & Paymatrix expanded their services portfolio while Pally evolved in its product idea and expanded its team.

Axis Bank & start-ups

Axis Bank has always been keen on adoption of technology in its systems and solutions. Besides the Accelerator start-ups, Bank, with the Thought Factory team, has been working with other upcoming start-ups too. With Active AI(a Singapore based start-up specializing in AI stack), Bank is building a chatbot. The bot will be able to provide speedy redress of customer queries via chat. Another interesting solution is AI based video-surveillance, which the Thought Factory team is working for with Uncanny Vision. If successful, the solution has potential of removing any manual intervention in surveillance.

Axis Bank’s innovation team is working on recruitment of start-ups for the second cohort of the  Accelerator. For a much quicker implementation Bank is also developing a Development Platform – a sandbox environment of its APIs, which can be used by start-ups for a quick plug-n- play.

Hi Guys,

After ages and ages, I have yet another post on Philippines.  I promise, I’ll try my best to be regular if Rohitt gives me pictures on time.  So, let’s rewind a little, shall we ?

After leaving from Bangalore on the 23rd night, we reached Manila the next day. Since it has one of the finest harbor in the country, we chose a hotel which was closer to Manila Bay. We strolled around our hotel, exchanged the currency and headed towards Bay walk, because Rohitt wanted to take some pictures. After spending few hours, he managed to get the most gorgeous picture..

Reflections at Manila Bay Walk

The following morning we took a 2 hour flight to Busuanga airport. Then a 45 mins bus ride later, we were at our beautiful hotel in Coron, Vela Terraces. The weather was quite hot and we were greeted with chilled Pineapple juice which I still think was the best juice I’ve ever had. We then strolled around the quaint little town with narrow streets and booked the Island hopping trips with Calamian Islands Travel & Tours. The next day our adventure began ,

Airport OOTD

The best Pineapple Juice, Ever !

Planning in progress

Kayangan Lake

We were up early, had our breakfast and then were picked up by 8 am. After reaching the jetty we got into a boat with 15 other people. Our guide gave us some instructions, and our snorkeling gear. We started & our first spot was Kayangan Lake. I really can’t describe how beautiful the journey was. The blue water, clear sky with sun shining above, there is no greater feeling..! Now, to reach the lake, you have to first climb a mountain, literally..! ( I mean it’s just 20-30 min hike) And then, you have to climb down that mountain and on the other side, you will see the Kayangan lake. The water there is 70% fresh water & 30% salt water. It is the most clean, beautiful and crystal blue lake and from the wooden boardwalk only you can see underwater rock formation. All we did was swim in that water. We were told that there is a small cave in the lake, so If you can free dive, you would be able to experience that too!

View of the ‘parking spot’ from the mountain

Kayangan Lake

Twin Lagoons

Sadly, I had forgotten my waterproof mobile cover at the hotel and could not click any pictures. The boats would stop in the first lagoon, you’ll have to first jump into the water and through the secret entrance you would reach the second lagoon. The entrance is nothing but a small opening in the limestone so you have to swim to reach. And when you enter the second lagoon, you will the lime rock formations you have never seen before. Tall and years old lime rock formations, emerald green crystal clear water is what will make you realize how beautiful the nature is..! The lagoon is quite big and you will have to swim through it to experience it’s beauty but, don’t worry, they will provide you a life jacket so you can easily float. And if you can’t swim with the jacket like Rohitt, your lovely wife will drag you along, while swimming around the lagoon, so that you do not miss it. But be nice and thank her later because, swimming for an hour while dragging another human being gets quite exhausting..!

Beach 91

A small beautiful beach which was the best ‘Lunch Spot’. The food is a dream come true for non-vegetarians with a huge spread of fresh meat & sea food and yummy watermelons. If you are a vegetarian, you will have to only survive on fruits or plain rice.

Skeleton Wreck

It is famous for scuba diving. But we could see the wreck while snorkeling since it was not very deep.

Marine Park

By this point, most of the travelers were exhausted. Since I had taken an oath to jump into every water body possible, I and another lovely couple, jumped in the water, again! I am not exaggerating but, it turned out to be one of the best snorkeling experience..!

CYC Beach

We had to skip it because it was getting late. On our way back, we were served yummy caramelized sweet potatoes which our guides had grilled on the boat.

That was it for day one in Coron. We reached back at our hotel by 5:30 pm and we had an entire evening to our selves which we spent walking around in the town and finding a good restaurant which served vegetarian food.

Tricycle – Filipino transport

I hope you guys liked this kind of post. Let me know what you think about it in the comments box below.
